“Art is the most effective mode of communications that exists”

- John Dewey.

I believe education begins in the classroom and ends in the community. What would a community look like without art, and how would we communicate?

Art is essential; it lives in successful business logos, mathematical functions, and the biology of life itself. The act of creating art is an opportunity to take a look at a problem with fresh eyes or to see someone else’s point of view.

As Dewey stated, art is the ultimate form of communication.

As an arts educator, I want to show students that their artistic abilities can aid them in all disciplines including life outside of school. I embrace an interdisciplinary approach to arts education and provide students with the vocabulary needed to investigate their inner and outer experiences. In collaboration with my fellow educators, I design unit plans that directly correlate to diverse subject areas (Language Arts, Social Studies, Math/Science, etc.). It is also my priority to get to know my students’ cultures, interests, and hobbies so I can better design lesson plans that have value to students on a personal level. This is all achieved through consistent dialogue, critique, and self-reflection on behalf of both the students and myself, the educator.
